Monroe Street Planters

For years, the Metropolis Condominium stood tall above Monroe Street — yet at street level, we had virtually no presence. Like many high-rise residential buildings in the Loop, our community existed vertically, disconnected from the pedestrian energy that defines State Street.

I saw an opportunity to change that.

Working directly with the Alderman’s office, I secured approval to install large-scale architectural planters along Monroe Street. The goal was simple but strategic: create warmth at the sidewalk, draw visual attention to the building, and contribute to the beautification of the Loop.
The impact went beyond landscaping.

The planters softened the streetscape, activated our frontage, and signaled that residents are invested stakeholders in the neighborhood. They created a more welcoming pedestrian experience while visually connecting our vertical residential community to the broader State Street corridor.

This initiative reflects how I approach leadership — not just managing a building, but shaping its relationship to the city around it. Thoughtful, collaborative improvements at street level can strengthen community identity, increase neighborhood pride, and reinforce the Loop as a vibrant place to live, not just work.
